Daniel “Papa” McClelland

Daniel “Papa” McClelland was born on October 30, 1922 in Houston, Texas to Irene Louis and Ace McClelland and went on to attend his beloved St. Thomas High School. In 1944 he married Grace Hickman and spent 68 wonderful years together.

He was so very proud of the time he served in the U.S. Navy during both WWII and Korea. He survived two of his destroyers being sunk and some of Dan’s famous stories are from those days.

Dan passed away on August 15, 2012 surrounded by his family and his devoted staff from Houston Hospice.
He is survived by his wife, Grace; daughter and son-in-law, Rose Ann and Jim; grandson, Bob and wife Lindsay, Baby McClellan; and Papa’s “ShelbyDog.”

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Katy, where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Katy with Rev. Carl Belisch officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Memorial Clinical Association, Houston Hospice, and all the special friends and extended family without whose help they could not have made this journey.

Condolences may be expressed at www.SchmidtFuneralHome.net.

Funeral services held under the direction of Schmidt Funeral Home, 1508 East Avenue, Katy, Texas 77493, 281-391-2424.
