Theodore Junior Schalk

Born: November 20, 1924
Died: February 21, 2016

Theodore Schalk, 91, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the John J. Pershing Veterans Hospital.

Mr. Schalk was born November 20, 1924 in Poplar Bluff to the late Otto and Callie Mosberger Schalk. On August 30, 1946, he married Vida Stroud of Broseley Mo. She survives.

Mr. Schalk was a WWII veteran proudly serving on the USS Little, which sank in the Battle of Okinawa. For his combat service he was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Schalk was a retired mail carrier and dedicated family man. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed giving all his produce away.

Survivors include five children: Sam Schalk (Rita), Margie Rains (Ron), Myra Thurman and Sue Stuart (John), all of Poplar Bluff, John Schalk (Sheri) of Sunset Hills, Mo.; ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren;

Five brothers, three sisters, and an infant daughter Marilyn preceded him in death.

The visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 with the funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The Rev. Byron Beck will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
